Thanks very much for visiting my blog. I’m an artist living and working in New York City. By day I work as an information systems analyst and most of my drawing gets done in the evenings and on weekends. I typically post work here on my blog once or twice a week depending on how productive I’ve been. My favorite medium is soft pastel - I love the rich pigment and the direct drawing and painting techniques that pastels allow.
I earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts (BFA) degree at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Purchase in Westchester County. I initially concentrated in drawing and two-dimensional design and later got very involved in the woodworking program at Purchase. After graduation, I taught woodwork for 2-1/2 years in Swaziland, Africa, as a Peace Corps volunteer and on returning to the United States worked as a professional furniture maker. After deciding that woodworking might be a better hobby than vocation, I went to work in an office environment and completed studies for a certificate in computer information systems at Columbia University. More recently, I earned a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at Baruch College, a City University of New York (CUNY) school, where I focused on industrial and organizational psychology and information systems management.
In addition to drawing and painting, I am fascinated by language and actively study French and Japanese. My wife and I enjoy travel and we share an interest in seeing new places and revisiting ones we’re familiar with. I love chamber music and am a devoted fan of the modern composer Somei Satoh and of the Baroque-period composer Marin Marais, in addition to very well-known luminaries such as Bach and Beethoven. With drawing and painting, my favorite artists include Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, J.M.W. Turner (especially his watercolors), Georges Seurat (particularly his drawings), George Inness, Piet Mondrian (his floral paintings), Ellsworth Kelly (especially his drawings), and Wolf Kahn.
